Hi, I'm Scott.

I'm a Seattle-based product design manager just trying to learn something new everyday.

About me
WHAT'S MY STORY?

Glad you've scrolled this far! Allow me tell you a little about myself.

First, you should know that I'm a hybrid -- I blur the line between product management and design. How so? Maybe it's because I'm fascinated with understanding the complete product picture? Or maybe it's because I'm ambidextrous? Not sure. Regardless, I can speak Bauhausian and ROI.

My duality became apparent after graduating with a business strategy degree and starting my career in management consulting. I quickly found myself attracted to the intersection of product strategy, research and design. I reoriented my career into product design, yet I find myself drawn to understand all aspects of product.

After learning design on-the-job at PwC's 'intraprenuership' tech lab and Analytics Apps teams, I worked for a few startups, including Voi, a mental healthcare company. Then, in early 2018, I left San Francisco for Seattle to join the design team at Egencia. While there, I led design efforts to reduce calls to customer service (including our self-serve bot experiences) and in late 2018, I began managing our North America design team.

WHAT'S MY PHILOSOPHY?

I'm a believer in RESEARCH and PROCESS.  To design the most optimal solution, I first seek to understand the problem. After forming a solid hypothesis, I rapidly iterate on solutions, trying my best to never lose sight of the goal to impact desired KPI's.

As a manager, I continuously encourage my team to:

  • Clarify both user and business goals  -- ask seemingly dumb questions
  • Validate ideas with users quickly -- test same day, if possible
  • Seek feedback early and often -- share at an uncomfortable stage
  • Drop biases -- we all have 'em, but be aware and actively combat them
  • Keep the end in sight -- don't be blinded by short-term KPI/metric success
HOW DO I SPEND MY FREE TIME?

I enjoy endurance sports, reading, cutting hair, volunteering in the community, and helping my lovely wife with her designer textile company, Klaede.
